Should Qarabag Be Thrown Out of the Champions League?

What is the Champions League?

Some would say it's the best club sides from all over Europe, competing against one another.


I'd go a step further by saying it's the very best teams that the continent of Europe have to offer. Nothing more, nothing less.


Emphasis on the word: best












Qarabag may very well be the best that the great country of Azerbaijan have to offer, but when it comes to the Champions League, they are worlds apart from the rest.


And the Chelsea game showed that.


We have seen many large scorelines, and it does tend to happen in football. After all, the most successful nation in world football, Brazil, got their bodies shackled and restructured by the ruthless Germans.


This was a different kind of beating though, as Qarabag looked millions of miles away from Chelsea. The ease with which Chelsea cut through Qarabag and the fact that it could have been a lot more, does not give the Champions League a good look.

And they are still to face Roma and Atletico...


You see, I am not one to encourage everyone to be part of the competition because it's good to take part. Hence why I was against the expanded Euro 2016, as that resulted in some games that were complete dead weight.


It's not "the taking part that counts." No. Take that mantra somewhere else. In the Champions League, I only want the best of the best.

Now, I don't want to insult the people of Azerbaijan. I just merely want to look at the integrity of the competition and I am sure that those who support Qarabag would not want their team to set the record for most goals conceded in the competition.


Let them come back with a stronger team, with better equipped players who can give teams like Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Roma a good game.







Or maybe they may prove me wrong, look at the mistakes they made against Chelsea and be much better in their next two games.

But let's be real; on what we've seen from Qarabag, we know that it's going to be nasty and embarassing if Roma and Atletico are in the mood for some restructuring.


Nobody wants to see a double figure scoreline.


So Qarabag, I implore you to please use the forfeit rule and save yourself, your country and those who follow you any further embarassment.


Or simply be better...much better. HH
