The mission starts here.
I don't care about Ligue 1 or the French Cup, and neither do the PSG board.
This entire project, which is scarily expensive, was built for one thing and one thing only. And that is to win the Champions League.
That's the mission statement, that is the aim, that is the goal.
It's why Neymar signed that contract. This is the challenge he was alluding to when he explained why he left Barcelona. He wants to be the man who delivered the Champions League to PSG.
He wants to succeed where Ibrahimovic failed.
And he's going to get some help from the young French prodigy, who also knows what the deal is.
It all starts against Celtic, and every single game will be vital where every PSG member of the squad must pull in the same direction.
A lot of people don't want PSG to succeed. They don't want Neymar to succeed. Seeing all that money being spent and them failing yet again would put a smile on a lot of people's faces, none moreso than those at Barcelona.
But the truth is, this is the Champions League. You simply can't buy the trophy. Well, if you offered enough money to UEFA, I'm sure there is a price where they would just give it to you.
I am talking in the sense of buying the best players available and assuming that is enough to win the competition.
The reason why Real Madrid have won it back-to-back isn't just down to how expensive their squad is. It's their team chemistry and how well coached they are. A lot goes into creating a winning team, from the players, the coach, the strategy...and even a bit of luck.
Can I get a shout out for Emery?
Yep. The spotlight is going to be on him. The man who really shouldn't have a job after the Miracle at Camp Nou. He's under real pressure now. Especially with Neymar and Mbappe at his disposal, if he does not at the very least get to the semi-final, then he'll be sacked.
That is the one thing holding PSG back. I just don't think Emery can handle this talent. When it comes down to it and they get drawn against Madrid, Bayern or Juventus; do you trust Emery to go toe-to-toe against Allegri, Valverde and Zidane?
I think PSG's season is the next one where you would hope Mbappe and Neymar have figured out how to play with one another. It's too soon to expect them, just based off their talent to win it for PSG.
Football doesn't work like that.
Maybe they can at least make a statement by going farther than PSG have in recent years, whilst entertaining us. HH
