I have been a long time shunner of Kane's talent.
Not that I think he's rubbish, but perhaps a case of being overrated.
For a man who has not yet shone either on the international stage or in Europe, he gets far more praise than he deserves and I always want people to earn their stripes before being touted as world class.
Tonight, Kane really showed up for Spurs, and maybe has given the rest of Europe a little taster of what he and Spurs can achieve this season as well as getting myself to take notice.
What takes you from being a really good striker to one that enters the elite category is not how many goals you score, but when and where you score them and your consistency.
This was a very important game for Spurs for a number of reasons. Firstly, because you always want to win your opening game. It sets the tone and gives you a foundation to build on from.
It's also a group that involves Real Madrid. So beating Dortmund is a necessity, if they want to have a chance of going through as runners-up behind the reigining champions. As Spurs can't expect to finish ahead of Madrid.
The biggest reason was Wembley. A stadium that Tottenham failed so miserably in Europe last season. Would it yet again prove a curse to them.
Nope. They passed with flying colours.
Kane was one of the standouts. And it just wasn't about his two excellently taken goals, which shows how his finishing gets better with every season. Always impresses me when a striker is lethal with both feet.
It's how he lead the line. Using the width of the pitch. Being in control when he had the ball, and bringing in his teammates into the game. He just wasn't content in being a poacher, but being an all-round frontman that can help the team in a variety of ways.
A really good striker can take a team a long way. So if Tottenham can have a complete performance from back to front, and Kane can lead the line in the way he did tonight, anything is possible in football.
What I like about what I'm seeing from Kane is how direct he is. Once he is facing the defenders, he is looking to run into space and if he even sniffs a sight off goal, he's going to pop one off.
That's something no defender looks forward to face.
It's a good start, and Kane has to keep his head down and focus on making a really big impact in this competition.
Because it's about when and where you score, Harry. HH
