PSG HAVE THEIR FIRST MAJOR WIN IN VICTORY OVER BAYERN

Their first real test, and PSG passed with flying colours as they continue their mission to win the Champions League.

That is why Neymar and Mbappe were brought in. The domestic double is a nice dessert, but the main course will always be the European cup. It's what the owners crave, and the two very expensive stars know that is the ultimate goal.

This was just another victory, on the road to that trophy.

In truth, their victory, was against a Bayern side who inexplicably did not start one of their best players, Robben, and who have been in bad form as of late.

So does this mean PSG are still yet to prove themselves as real contenders?

Yes and No.

I still want to see what this PSG side can do against a top team who are playing well. So we are looking at Barcelona, Real Madrid and even Manchester City who are quickly becoming the dark horses of the competition.

And playing in a group stage game is very different from a second leg quarter-final when you are a goal down, not playing well, and have to pull out a result.

That is where we will find out what PSG are really made of.

However, Bayern are always Bayern. And when PSG took the early, lead, it was Bayern who dominated possession and put the pressure on for the equalizer and forced the Parisien crew back.

That is where you must credit Emery and the players as they were able to switch their style to a brutal counter-attack, executed to perfection which caused Bayern so many problems through the game.

At the end of the day, that performance from PSG means they have to at least now start to be taken seriously. This was a very comprehensive victory which would have been a lot worse for Bayern if Neymar had been more accurate with his shooting.

The kind of quality and connection Neymar and Mbappe is sharing is scary. To think they have never played before, and already it's as if they have been in the same side for years just shows you the wonderful conundrum of football and life.

Kindred spirits brought together by the beautiful game.

But it was a great team peformance. Rabiot yet again, showing why he's one of the most underrated midfielders in the world, Thiago Silva and Dani Alves showing the Brazilian defensive and offensive quality and Areola who has done incredibly well to hold down the number one position.

I am seeing a really good team here. One that is a level above the Ibrahimovic era.

It's too early to say how far PSG can go, and I still don't see a team that can go all the way and win it. But I love watching them play and their football just brings me joy.

The more they keep on playing like this, the better and lucky we will all be as football fans. HH
